How screen-time rewards work
Earnest is a launcher first, so the reward apps live behind the Time Bank instead of a restriction dashboard. A kid sees what they can afford, taps to spend, and the countdown does the rest.
You pick the reward apps
From the installed-app picker you mark each app as a reward app, an always-allowed app, or blocked. Only reward apps draw down minutes.
A countdown keeps it fair
When a kid opens a reward app, a countdown runs against the Time Bank. A five minute warning gives them a chance to wrap up.
A gentle soft lock
When minutes run out, Earnest softly locks the reward apps again. Always-allowed apps like phone and messages are never affected.
Coming to the first release
The Time Bank that funds screen time is working today. The App Locker, the live countdown, and the enforcement that reopens the lock are coming to the first release. How reliably a lock holds depends on the device mode, which we explain candidly on the enforcement page.
Common questions
Which apps can kids unlock?
Only the apps you choose as reward apps, such as a video app or a game. You decide the list from the apps already installed on the device.
What happens when time runs out?
A five minute warning appears, then the reward apps softly lock again. Apps you marked as always-allowed, like phone, messages, and clock, stay open the whole time.
Can I set a daily cap?
Yes. Alongside earned minutes you can set daily caps, so even a big earning day does not turn into unlimited screen time.
