  1. Allow background activity

Open Settings, then Battery, then App battery usage or App battery management. Find Earnest and set it to Allow background activity, or choose Do not restrict.

  2. Turn off battery optimization for Earnest

In Settings, then Battery, then Battery optimization, find Earnest and choose Do not optimize. This is the same setting the permissions guide describes.

  3. Lock Earnest in Recent apps

Open the Recent apps view, find the Earnest card, and lock it. On many OnePlus phones you tap the app icon at the top of the card, then choose Lock. Locked apps are less likely to be closed to save memory.

  4. Allow auto-launch

If your phone has an Auto-launch or Startup manager, usually in Settings, then Apps, then Startup or Auto-launch, enable Earnest so it can restart its service after a reboot.

  5. Turn off deep sleep or standby optimization for Earnest

ColorOS may have Sleep standby optimization or a Deep optimization list. If Earnest appears there, remove it or exclude it so the phone does not force it to sleep.

Why is this needed?

Earnest runs a small foreground service to keep an accurate countdown while a reward app is open. Battery savers on some phones will close that service to save power, which makes timers drift or a lock disappear. The settings above tell your phone to leave Earnest alone so it can do its job. None of them give Earnest extra access to your data; they only stop the system from force-closing it. You can read how the enforcement pieces work on the enforcement page.

If you use another brand, such as Xiaomi, Samsung, or Motorola, look for the equivalent background and battery settings. The site Don't Kill My App maintains maker-specific instructions that many parents find helpful.
